Musical “Diana – The People’s Princess” Premieres in São Paulo at Teatro Liberdade
Directed by Tadeu Aguiar, the production, starring Sara Sarres, brings together Claudio Lins, Giselle de Prattes, Simone Centurione, and a large ensemble cast in a major production by Estamos Aqui Produções that revisits the life story of one of the 20th century’s most iconic figures.
Following a run in Rio de Janeiro, the musical production “Diana – The People’s Princess” arrives in São Paulo for the first time in 2026, expanding the reach of a story that continues to spark fascination, debate, and deep emotion worldwide. Adapted and directed by Tadeu Aguiar, and presented by the Ministry of Culture and Bradesco Seguros, the production is produced by Estamos Aqui Produções, the company behind award-winning hits such as *Quase Normal* (Next to Normal), *A Cor Púrpura* (The Color Purple), and *Querido Evan Hansen* (Dear Evan Hansen). The show premieres on May 15th at Teatro Liberdade, featuring a non-replica Brazilian staging that offers a fresh perspective on the journey of the woman who captivated the world, without sacrificing the sophistication, essence, or emotional impact of this true story.

In this new production, the show delves into nuances that hew closer to the Princess’s emotional reality, exploring her humanity, complexity, and strength. The woman who revolutionized the British monarchy, transforming pain into a voice and empathy into a legacy, now takes on flesh and spirit in a staging that prioritizes emotional depth and scenic grandeur, guided by a sharp and accomplished creative team.
The cast comprises 23 actors, anchored by its central star, Sara Sarres, one of the most respected voices in Brazilian musical theater. With a career distinguished by leading roles in major productions both in Brazil and abroad, such as *Les Misérables*, *The Phantom of the Opera*, *West Side Story*, *The Drowsy Chaperone*, and *Man of La Mancha*, among others, the actress returns to the country’s stages after a hiatus of nearly five years. Joining her are Claudio Lins as Prince Charles, Simone Centurione portraying Queen Elizabeth, and Giselle Prattes in the role of Camilla Parker Bowles. Together, these characters drive the central emotional, institutional, and public conflicts that shaped the lives of the Princess and the British Royal Family.

Rounding out the cast are Rosana Penna (Barbara Cartland), Dino Fernandes (James Hewitt), Giovanna Rangel (Sarah Spencer), Fábio Brazile (Paul), Betto Marque (Andrew Parker), Lucas Britto (Rostropovich), Matheus Boa (Andrew Morton), Rhuan Santos (Colin), and Fabi Figueiredo (Host); alongside Bia Bahia, Carol Pita, Duda Carvalho, Maria Vitória Rodrigues, Celso Till, Mavi Carpin, Cris Mont, Marianna Alexandre, André Ulo, and Lua Soares (swings), forming a diverse ensemble that expands the human, political, and symbolic dimensions of the narrative.
Musical direction is by Thalyson Rodrigues, with set design by Natália Lana, costume design by Ney Madeira and Dani Vidal, choreography by Sueli Guerra, and hair and makeup design by Anderson Bueno and Cristiane Regis. Lighting design is by Serginho, and sound design by Paulo Altafim and Gabriel D’Ângelo. Production coordination is by Norma Thiré, and general production by Eduardo Bakr.
